A NEW event for mixed ability runners in the town takes place this month.
The Commonweal 5 is a five mile multi-terrain event for runners of all abilities on May 27 at 10.30am from the school, in Old Town.
The event is organised by the PTA at the school to help raise money for a new minibus.
The course will appeal to mixed ability runners from across the town – ranging from the novice jogger who wants the satisfaction of completing the course, to the more seasoned competitor.
The race starts on the Old Town railway path, about five minutes’ walk away from Commonweal School and heads across the canal bridge near Rushy Platt before looping back along the recently opened link road towards Wichelstowe.
The course weaves its way around the new lakes and alongside the new stretch of canal in Wichelstowe before a short climb up to the railway path and returning back to the finish line in the school’s playing field via footpaths between Field Rise and Roman Crescent.
Further information about this event and online registration are available at www.commonweal5.co.uk.
Entry is open to everyone over the age of 15, but due to the quality of the running surfaces along certain stretches of the route, the race is not suitable for pushchairs or wheelchairs.
Entry costs £10 for unaffiliated runners and £8 for UKA affiliated runners. Race numbers must be collected from the race HQ at Commonweal School on the day. The PTA will be serving refreshments.
