SPECIALIST officers seized £10,000 in hard Drugs when a man tried to run away after a car was routinely stopped.
Police halted the car in Jersey Park, Shaw, at 10.20pm on Wednesday and when one of the three occupants, a 26-year-old man, tried to flee they gave chase.
After he was caught officers found the wraps of suspected crack cocaine and heroin and arrested the three people, including an 18-year-old man and a 20-year-old woman, on suspicion of being concerned in the supply of class A drugs.
All three were still being questioned at Gablecross Police Station yesterday and the drugs were being sent for analysis.
PC Georgina Green, of the Dedicated Crime Team, said the seizure would have restricted the supply of hard drugs in the area.
She said: “Officers were on patrol in the Shaw area and pulled over a car with three occupants. One of the men ran away and was pursued for a short distance on foot.
“As a result we recovered 4oz of crack cocaine and 2oz of heroin with an estimated street value of about £10,000.
“This shows the Dedicated Crime Team is committed to tackling drug offences and dealing with the people involved in the supply of hard drugs robustly.
“We have 26 people on bail for separate offences and have made several recent seizures of high amounts of cash too.
“Drugs have a real impact on the community and a lot of other crime is committed by people with drug addictions, so I am pleased we have taken these drugs off the streets.
“It really does dent the supply chain.”
PC Green also urged people to pass information to the police if they know or suspect drug activity in their area.
She said: “I would like to appeal for people to either tell us or Crimestoppers.
“We get a lot of information from Crimestoppers and with their continued support we can get drugs off the streets.”
Anyone with any information should contact the DCT on 101 or Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111.
