Living Things
by Linkin Park,
out on Warner Brothers Records.
Throughout this album Linkin Park have their finger on the trigger; it will appeal to all those who love pump-action shotgun rock.
The single Lost In The Echo gives a kickass start, with its snappy, rap rock over synth sound. Second single Burn It Down is rock for a new generation, with a regular rap trapped in a sandwich of guitar, synth and crescendo of drums.
I’ll Be Gone is a headbanger special with a haunting verse and in-your-face chorus.
Castle Of Glass reminds me of a gothic fairytale, sinister and dark with dramatic imagery. The following track Victimized is a harsher, punk-style rap about the underbelly of society, while in complete contrast Roads Untravelled is a soft, sad rock ballad.
It is sometimes said that rap is poetry set to music and this idea is reflected in Until It Breaks. Tinfoil is a slower ballad, gentle with orchestral sweeps and poignant vocals while Powerless is well named because on my CD it was just that - silent.
A strongly visual album that will undoubtedly not get Lost In The Echo.
