A paranormal investigator from Swindon has perfected a new hobby on the side from hunting for ghosts.
Kathy Penticost of Highworth has been exploring the paranormal in Wiltshire for years but has recently developed a passion for a less otherworldly hobby.
“I been doing resins for about two years now as I started doing smaller items like keyrings and worry bears,” she said.
The 55-year-old finds herself having spare time on her hands and being able to creative decorative resin items keeps her busy.
“I can’t work due to health issues and I enjoy doing the resin and creating nice things,” said Kathy.
She creates resin items to mark occasions such as weddings and birthdays, but also designs lasting monuments for families when loved ones have died.
“When I do the human or pet memorials it’s nice to see the process from the start to the end product,” said Kathy.
“Having a customer’s trust with you with their loved one’s ashes or treasured keepsakes is a special thing.”
The process for making such products is a long one but Kathy is starting to become a professional at her new hobby.
“When making up the resin you have to wear protective gear including latex gloves and a respirator mask.
“The hardest part is getting rid of all the air and my resin hearts have several layers to them, usually taking about six hours between layers.
“They can take 24 hours to harden so a heart can take a week to complete once the silicon shape mould is filled.”
The memorial hearts are priced from £75 but Kathy will take commissions no matter the size of the item.
“I am happy to work with the customer to get an idea of what they would like,” she said.
“I’m currently doing a memorial teddy bear with some guinea pig hair inside two smaller hearts which will be placed inside the teddy for a little girl.”
Despite her making more and more unique resins in the last few months, Kathy’s interest in the paranormal shows no sign of stopping any time soon.
“I think the passion I have for both activities is the equal amount as they are both my favourite things that I like to take part in,” she said.
“Finding something that’s paranormal gives you a different buzz to a customer really appreciating your piece of work you have finished for them.”
