SWINDON might be one of the best places to be during a zombie apocalypse.
Research conducted by Rentola.co.uk has analysed 306 towns and cities across the country and ranked them based on the possibility of people living there surviving an outbreak of the undead.
Each city and town was ranked in six categories - vulnerability, hideouts, supplies, hazards, safety, and mobility - and then given a total score based on those.
And the results show that if you're looking to avoid the walking dead and want to be the last of us then you can't do much better than Swindon, which placed 12th out of all 306 places.
The town scored 6.02 in total. For reference, the best place to be, Uttlesford, scored 6.35, and the worst place to be, Craven, scored 3.44.
A spokesperson from Rentola said: "Recent years have seen a multitude of problems afflicting the world, including the Covid-19 pandemic, wars, and changes in the social and economic structures that continue to shape the cultural, social and economic landscape globally.
"But what if a new epidemic arises that turns people into zombies or a war breaks out between the living and the dead?
"To determine the safest city in the UK in case of a hypothetical zombie apocalypse, we analysed various factors across six categories and based on our findings, we have identified the safest city in the UK.
"Therefore, if you do not reside in the safest city, it may be wise to consider relocation in the event of a global zombie outbreak."
For the vulnerability rating, Rentola.co.uk looked at population density and public health, tourism, and the disaster risk index. For this Swindon was in 28th place.
The town placed much worse for hideouts, coming 268th. For this, the average size of private outdoor space, the percentage of addresses with private outdoor space, and the vacant housing rate was taken into account.
Swindon was the 32nd best placed for supplies, based on water supply; sewerage, waste management and remediation activities, accommodation, and food service activities, median energy efficiency, and distance to pharmacies.
But it fared less well in terms of hazards at 75th. For this, the researchers looked at air quality in the area.
Safety was another area Swindon struggled with a ranking of 112th. This figure was derived from crime index statistics.
And finally, transportation links and road safety data were looked at to determine the mobility score, for which Swindon scored highly at 21st.
