You might be wanting to get a little bit closer to nature in the warmer months or maybe you’re camping for the first time.

To help you choose a location, travel enthusiasts at Motorcycle Insurance have created the ultimate list by referring to Countryfile, The Times and Outdoor Scott.

The experts then utilised Google search volume data through Semrush using a variation of keywords to determine the most popular.

The research was collected in April 2023 and shows the ranking, hotspot and location:

  2. Ullswater, Cumbria
  3. Cairngorms, Aberdeenshire
  4. Isle of Bute, Argyll and Bute
  5. Exmoor National Park, Somerset
  6. Llyn Peninsula, Gwynedd
  7. Black Mountains, Brecon Beacons
  8. Sandwood Bay, Sutherland
  9. Cheviot Hills, Northumberland
  10. Peppercombe Beach, North Devon

Motorcycle Insurance said: “Dartmoor in Devon has been ranked the best place to wild camp in the UK with more than 35,000 Google searches, perhaps due to its stunning landscapes, peaceful atmosphere, and abundance of outdoor activities.

“The area is made up of rolling hills and moorland which offer spectacular views. There are also plenty of sheltered spots to camp in, as well as plenty of picturesque rivers, streams and bogs to explore.”

It’s important to remember that wild camping is legal in Scotland, but if you want to camp in England, Wales and Northern Ireland, you must seek permission from the land owner.

The data collected represents areas identified as spots where with permission you’d be allowed to camp.
