Bin day is changing for every house in Swindon, causing frustration for some around the town.
From December 27, the first waste and recycling collection day after the two-day Christmas break, every household will be on a new weekly schedule.
This received some pushback on social media, though others were fine with the schedule change.
Paula Joslin said: “This is fine but I just would like if bin and recycling could be collected on the same day as it used to be.”
Andrew Trybus grumbled: “So for the crews to have Christmas off thousands of households must be inconvenienced. Why not just get them to work Christmas and Boxing Day?
“Loads of people do.
“No law says you have to pay people more for working Christmas day or any bank holiday, weekends, nights.
“Minimum wage and 28 days leave a year are the only things that need to be taken into account.”
Chloe Fell said: “People are entitled to have time off over Christmas especially those who are parents with young children!”
“The council can’t win whatever they do. Yes it’s annoying they are changing it all again but if it’s going to save on less rubbish being out then isn’t it worth it a shot?
“No pleasing some people.”
Mel Gaskin said: “Ah, I always go with what or which bin the rest of the street put out, they haven't failed me yet.”
Lorraine Nolan said: “Let’s hope that they learn to respect our recycle boxes, they throw them down which crack them but we have to pay to replace them.”
Wayne Hunt said: “What a joke, constantly messing around with it, I hope they plan on reminding people or sending out some kind of notice or do they just expect people to read this and remember?”
Steph Shim said: “So basically they’re going to change collection days every year to accommodate the two weekdays of the year they don't work and think it's going to reduce confusion.”
Susan Chance said: “I’ve flipping just got use to the last change, now all change again for goodness’ sake.”
Diane Potts said: “So that is nearly three weeks, are they getting us ready for one a month's collection?”
Mark Robert said: “It's not very hard people. Just put your bins out two days later.
“Anyone would think the council are asking you to throw your waste in the truck yourself, drive the truck to depot and then empty it before having to clean it with your toothbrush.”
Wyatt Tait agreed: “100 per cent. I don’t see it as a big deal. It’s not an essential service over Christmas, so staff are entitled to enjoy Christmas dinner at home.
“Get a grip, people.”
Commenters on the Adver website voiced their views.
‘Arrowfield’ said: Easier just to leave all bins and recycling out and hope for the best!”
‘The leftie next door’ added: I’ve got from a Thursday to a Monday, no problem if it means things will work better. After all isn’t this what people want?
“For the last year, an obsession has been created over the collection randomness. If this stops it then I’m all for it. See a problem, fix it, that’s the job of the council, very good SBC.”
‘Percy2’ said: “Is it such a big deal? These people do a fantastic job in all weathers “Sometimes there is a backlog because of issues they are not responsible.
“Stop complaining and change the day on your calendar that you have to make an effort to get off the sofa and put the bins out. Is it that difficult?”
