The demolition of the former-charity shop and travel shop by the Fleming Way underpass is currently underway.

If you have been to the town centre recently you may have noticed hoardings up around the former retail units as work takes place.

At the same time, Thames Water will be digging a trial hole to undertake their work regarding the water mains.

Access to the subway and to The Parade has been maintained throughout the works and it will continue to stay like that.

Swindon Borough Council recently warned locals visiting the town centre that they will start seeing major changes to the area in the coming weeks.

In the last couple of weeks week, fencing has been installed in The Parade, close to the subway, to maintain safety for the general public and site workers.

This photo, taken recently, shows work beginning on the latest phase of the project, including a gaping whole in the once-busy thoroughfare near the old Debenhams store.

The works are part of a wider £33 million plan, which is being described as one of the town centre's largest regeneration projects.

A Swindon Borough Council statement said: “This £33m scheme will transform Fleming Way, acting as a catalyst for the regeneration of the wider town centre by increasing land values and attracting investment to help deliver more homes alongside new retail and leisure facilities.”

This work is expected to be completed over the coming months.
