SWINDON Town are “not the same” defensively without the injured Alan McCormack, according to goalkeeper Wes Foderingham.
McCormack, who is currently recovering from a hamstring problem, has been a revelation for the Robins since switching central midfield for the heart of defence early last season.
Since then he has formed a strong partnership with Foderingham and the rest of the back four and, in taking on the captaincy responsibilities this term added another string to his bow.
McCormack should be back in action inside the next 10 days but Foderingham stressed how much Swindon have felt his, and vice captain Tommy Miller’s, absence.
“Alan McCormack is definitely one of our players, the back four is not the same without him there if I’m honest,” he said.
“What sometimes he lacks in games other players will be better at - Troy (Archibald-Henville) might be better in the air - but he’s really good at reading the game and I think we miss that side of it.
“It’s the same with Tommy Miller. He brings great experience in the middle of the park. He links up the play really well and he brings that experience to the team that we’ve definitely missed.
“On the injury front I think John Bostock will be back soon and there’s a couple of others who will be back in the next couple of weeks, which is good.
“The embargo has been lifted and that helps us bring in a few more extra players to help with the injuries. We should be back into those play-off positions, which is where we belong.”
In recent weeks, Town’s league form on the road has been considerably better than their efforts at the County Ground.
The Robins have not won any of their last four League One encounters on home turf, but have tasted victory away from home in four of their last five.
When asked whether he had any idea why this was the case, Foderingham said: “No, we can’t really put our finger on it to be honest.
“Last year it was obvious that we weren’t great away from home and we had a great home record.
“This year it seems to have changed.
“For what reason, I don’t know, but we’re just going to try to continue our form and hopefully get a good result and a good win.
“A lot of key players have been out injured. We saw Lou (Louis Thompson) come into the middle of the park for us and he did a fantastic job and we’ve seen a few people play out of position.
“Joe (Devera) came back into centre-back and he hasn’t played that position for a long time and I thought he did really well.
“We need to keep the spirit more than anything.
“If we can keep positive and keep trying to play well and keep doing what the manager tells us to do then I think we’ll be alright and we’ll cope without the boys.”
