DANY N’Guessan took just as much joy from setting up Nile Ranger for Town’s second on Saturday as he did from his own strike which gave the Robins the lead in their 5-2 victory over Port Vale.

The big forward rose well to nod home a Jay McEveley header midway through the first half but then in the second did all the hard work as he charged into the box before crossing to give Ranger the simplest of headers to double the lead.

N’Guessan enjoys playing with Ranger as he believes the former Newcastle man frees up extra room, and he was pleased to be able to repay the favour with an assist.

“I was there (for his goal) and I just headed it in, happy days,” he said.

“I’m a striker and I have to score but if I can help my teammates score then that is good too because you have to help your teammates.

“Nile is a big player and is big for the team and we need him in every game.

“I like playing with him because the opposition try to stop him all the time and it gives me more space and makes me more free.”

After Massimo Luongo added to the goals of N’Guessan and Ranger, Port Vale were able to haul themselves back into the game and make it 3-2, and the scorer of the opening goal admitted Town were a little nervous.

“I was a little bit nervous because 3-2 is game on with 10 minutes to go, but after we managed to score two goals it was all fine,” he said.

“We kept going and didn’t sit back and we managed to score two more which was brilliant.

“We are close to the top six now and that is where we want to be.

“I think we needed to have a good reaction from the last two games and we were very happy with our performance.

“We needed to stay strong and work hard because we knew we had the good quality to play football but sometimes that isn’t enough if you don’t put the work in.

“That’s what we did, we worked hard and our quality came through.”
