AFTER two manic years in a Swindon Town shirt, Wes Foderingham is looking forward to a much more tranquil 2014 - just as long as the Robins survive the January transfer window.
Foderingham has tasted promotion from League Two, a League One play-off campaign, three different owners, four chairmen and five managers during his 24 months as a full-time fixture at the County Ground - a remarkable record.
Now, however, he is hoping that stormy waters in Wiltshire will start to level out and that Town can keep their current squad together to maintain their push for a top-six finish.
“It will be a bit calmer if we keep the style and set-up that we’ve got at the minute - from the board, the manager, the team, the players,” he told the Advertiser. “We’ve got a good blend at the minute and I think we’re going in the right direction. Hopefully 2014 will be positive.”
Foderingham himself has been the subject of plenty of transfer speculation over recent weeks, with Bournemouth touted as a possible destination for the former Crystal Palace stopper in January.
However, the Advertiser understands the Cherries’ interest in Foderingham has cooled as they pursue a possible long-term deal for West Brom’s Lee Camp and, with no other Championship clubs believed to be keen on the 22-year-old, at present it appears as though Swindon will hang on to the goalkeeper in the new year.
Foderingham expects plenty more rumours to rear their heads in January and he feels it important that Town’s players try their best to distance themselves from any and all gossip.
“Everybody talks about it a little bit but you can’t let it affect your performance,” he said. “There’s going to be interest in a lot of our players because we’ve got a lot of good, young players.
“It’s only natural in football - it’s not just Swindon - that we’re getting players looked at. It’s the same for players throughout the Football League. You’ve just got to deal with it and do your best on a matchday.”
