ROB Hopkins expects to have plenty of players at his disposal if New College’s Hellenic League Division One West trip to Tuffley gets the go-ahead.
The students have not played competitively since December 14 but inaction for the academy’s under 18s this weekend means that boss Hopkins willl have a full squad.
“The under 18s game against Amesbury (on Thursday) was called off because their pitch is basically a swimming pool,” he said.
“Their game on Saturday is off as well, so we shouldn’t have any worries.
“Injuries don’t really matter to us because of the amount of players we can call on. With clubs who have small squads it might be an issue, but it isn’t for us.”
Meanwhile, Malmesbury are hoping to play their first game since December 14 when they make the journey to Old Woodstock.
An away trip could be a welcome relief for Vics, whose Flying Monk pitch has been out of action due to flooding over Christmas.
However, Old Woodstock’s surface has to pass the weather test first and Vics manager Gareth Davies says his team cannot afford another postponement, particularly against their fellow strugglers.
“Generally you don’t get the call until Saturday morning so it’s a waiting game for now,” he said.
“The weather isn’t helping us. Old Woodstock have played six games more than us and our last four have been called off, which isn’t what we want.
“We want to be playing games and getting points on the board.”
Elsewhere, Fairford and Purton both have home games on the agenda, against Clanfield and Hook Norton respectively.
