MILES Storey and Jack Barthram have not been neglected at Swindon Town, according to manager Mark Cooper, who has stressed that the young pair won’t become forgotten men at the County Ground.
The two 20-year-olds have found themselves in and out of Cooper’s matchday squads in recent months, despite impressing during their respective cameos, but the Town boss still sees a big future for both players in Wiltshire.
Storey has one goal to his name from 12 appearances in Swindon colours this term, while Barthram has also found the net once in a dozen outings. The former’s contract with the Robins extends until summer 2015, while Barthram’s one-year deal runs out this summer, but their manager does not think either have cause for concern when they find themselves struggling to break into his matchday squad.
Of Storey, who has previously spent time out on loan at Salisbury City this term, Cooper told the Advertiser: “He’s in the squad with the rest of the players. At the minute maybe the system doesn’t quite suit him. We’re trying to teach him the game, we’re trying to teach him how to front up and receive the ball and look after it rather than keep having to run in behind.
“He’s young, he’s learning and Miles will come. I’ve had a chat with Miles to decide what the best way is for him to go forward.”
Of Barthram, Cooper said: “He’s a baby; we’ve got to look at him. We can’t play him week in, week out. They’ve got to come in and out and learn the game, we’ve all been there. It’s frustrating for him.
“He’s doing fine. He’s got to just keep doing what he’s doing. He’s got fantastic ability and he’s another one that’s a young player who we’re trying to teach the game.”
