CHRIS Aubrey was the one shining light from the six Swindon representatives at the Players Championhip in Wigan recently.
En route to the third round on day two, Aubrey took the scalp of former World Champion Steve Beaton.
Aubrey won a close encoutner against Davey Dodds before taking on Beaton, who he discarded 6-2.
However, Aubrey’s fine form ended in the third round as he was beaten 6-4 against Andrew Gilding although he did pick up £500 for his efforts.
On day one, all the Swindon throwers suffered first round exits.
Johhny Haines lost 6-5 to Arron Monk, Mark Cox lost 6-2 to Wes Newton, Dennis Smith lost 6-4 to Ben Ward, John Newland lost 6-2 to Colin Lloyd and Aubrey lost 6-3 to Dean Winstanley.
While Aubrey faired better on day two, the rest of the Swindon group again suffered first round defeats.
Haines lost 6-5 to Ronnie Baxter, Cox lost 6-2 to Mervyn King, Smith lost 6-5 to Jamie Lewis and Newland lost 6-0 against Mareno Michels.
