THERE was no dramatic comeback for Swindon Supermarine last night as they slumped to a 6-1 mauling at the hands of AFC Totton in the Southern League Division One South & West.
Marine, who battled back from 3-0 down to beat Shortwood 4-3 at the weekend, were 5-0 down at half time in Hampshire.
Dave Webb’s men made a shocking start and were a goal down within seconds as Totton strolled through the centre of the field and Craig Feeney fired past Sam Warrell.
A painful first ten minutes saw Marine concede twice more, Feeney grabbing his second on six minutes as he tapped in at the near post.
Three minutes later, a Totton corner was headed home by Chris Onoufriou to leave Webb’s men in desperate trouble.
Joe Shepherd’s header gave the visitors their first glimpse of a goal before Bradley Gray and Luke Hopper both had efforts denied.
But Warrell produced good saves to twice deny Sherbourne before the Stags added a fourth five minutes before the interval as the keeper could not prevent Kyle O'Brien’s long-range effort from finding the target.
A horror first half was complete for the Wiltshire men as Drew Bridge fired home number five just before the whistle.
If Marine thought their pain was over in the second half, they were wrong as Zac Mouland raced in to make it 6-0.
The visitors raised their spirits courtesy of an own goal on the hour mark after Ross Adams had played the ball into the box before Hopper hit the woodwork soon after, but they were unable to make further inroads.
In the Hellenic League Premier Division tonight, Shrivenham host Highmoor Ibis while Wootton Bassett Town are at home to Bracknell Town.
