Luton Town Results

What a great comeback. After dominating the whole of the first half and most of the second, it was former Town striker Luke Rooney who put the home side ahead after 53 minutes. Town Captain Nathan Thompson handled the ball inside the box and Rooney converted the resultant penalty.

I must say, I expected the worst for the Town at that point. Yet the lads showed great resolve and guile. Andy Williams came on soon after going a goal down to give fresh impetus to the attack. They carried on playing their game, dominated the possession and got their reward. Nathan Byrne was fouled by Andy Drury in the penalty area and Michael Smith stepped up to convert from the spot. The Town were back in it. From there on you could only see one winner.  Five minutes after drawing level Michael Smith is there again. Massimo Luongo finds Smith in the box and he finds the back of the net with the shot.

Town Triumphant away from home and from a goal down. Great stuff.

What is there to say that hasn’t been said before? Mark Cooper thinks that Louis Thompson was hard done by. He is adamant that Louis got the ball, and after watching the clip on the FLS, for what it’s worth I’m inclined to agree.

After watching it again and again, and while the clip is very much inconclusive from that angle, I feel Louis got the ball first. But the lower leagues do not have the benefit of multiple camera angles to analyse, deconstruct and give a definitive view.

If anything, the linesman should have flagged for a foul – he didn’t. So how the ref could give a foul from where he was is beyond me. Was it a clear scoring opportunity? Maybe. Was it a yellow card? Maybe. Was Louis the last man? May be not. Was it worthy of a straight Red. Definitely not, well that’s my opinion anyway.

Swindon dominated in all areas of the game. The stats say it all.
