SHRIVENHAM boss Sam Collier was left devastated last night as he watched his team crumble from 2-0, to lose to 3-2 in the last 10 minutes against Highmoor Ibis.
The Barrington Park outfit had controlled their Hellenic Premier match up until the 80th minute when a change in tactics from the visitors, sticking four up front and launching long balls, brought about an implosion from Shrivvy.
Collier, speaking to the Advertiser after the game was at a loss to explain what had happened to his team.
“I don’t understand it, for 80 minutes and we’ve absolutely battered them. We were one up in 47th minute, but even in the first half we dictated,” said the Shrivenham boss.
“Steve Robertson got the first goal after some good work from Sam Packer and Matt Bennett.
“Then we two up from Robertson again, Josh Fowler, who came off the bench, kept the ball alive to set it up.
“It stayed like that until they scored in the 82nd minute, then the 88th and the 92nd. They stuck four up and were launching the ball long and we couldn’t deal with it.
“To be fair to them they did play but we dictated the whole game until they took over in the last ten.
“I have no idea what happened in all honesty, it happened to us a few times last season but I thought we’d ridden that and moved on from it. Even at 2-0 we should have gone to 3-0, even 4-0. Words can’t describe how I’m feeling at the moment.
“We’ve played teams launching the ball already this season and we’ve looked good at the back so far. Some of the lads have to put up their hands and take responsibility. We’re a young side and we have to stick together now.”
“I have a horrendously disappointed changing room, Highmoor are on the verge challenging for the title, we’ve led 2-0 and now we’ve got nothing.”
Elsewhere in the Hellenic Premier Paul Braithwaite’s Wootton Bassett Town also suffered disappointment as they were well beaten 5-0 at the Corinium by Bracknell Town.
