MARK Cooper always believed that his Swindon Town side would find their openings in their 2-0 success over Crewe Alexandra.

The County Ground side again dominated possession but they had to bide their time before a sublime free-kick from Yaser Kasim broke the deadlock on 35 minutes.

The Robins, who had 61 per cent of the possession against the Alex, who started the day second-from-bottom in League One, then had to wait until the 77th minute for Andy Williams to kill the game off.

The win, which maintained Town’s 100 per cent home start to the campaign, lifted Cooper’s men up to sixth in the table with seven points from the opening four matches.

But while some Swindon supporters were urging their side to be more direct against a team who slumped to the foot of the division and will struggle to get out of the bottom four all season, Cooper knew that patience was going to be key.

“I thought that we were very comfortable,” he said. “It was a different kind of display, we had to be very patient.

“Crewe gave us the respect and tried to not give us any space in behind and (they) probably came for a point and teams are not going to come here and make it easy for us.

“We had to patient, we had to wait for the right moment, but I didn’t feel we were ever in trouble.

“We totally dominated the game again – it was a good three points.”

The Town boss added: “When you have the possession stats that we have, teams get a little bit worried about being pulled all over the pitch and don’t want to give you any space.

“We just believe in what we are doing and sooner or later the gap will open up and we can take advantage of that.”
