LOUIS Thompson believes that Swindon Town’s possession football is making the people sit up and take notice of them.
The midfielder returned to Mark Cooper’s squad on Saturday, after serving a one-match ban, to play in the 2-0 success over Crewe Alexandra that came thanks to a sublime free-kick from Yaser Kasim and a neat finish from Andy Williams .
The 19-year-old feels that their patient display against the side that now resides at the foot of the League One sends out a message to the rest of the division.
“I think we have shown what we can do. People can come with different game plans on how to stop us, but we believe in ourselves,” Thompson told the Advertiser.
“We train on how to play, how to create angles for each other, I think that has shown out there.
“Our possession stats have been very, very good this season - I think that will be an omen for the rest of the season.”
Thompson felt that, while Town took their time in getting going, they are showing just how well they are passing the ball.
“I think they (Crewe) came out and pressed us all over the pitch. As soon as we adjusted to that the boys coped with it very well,” he said.
“We have started the season very well, we are creating a big of name for ourselves as a passing team – long may it continue.”
The victory over Crewe maintain Town’s 100 per cent home record this term and Thompson is looking to build on the success that has moved Swindon into sixth place League One.
“It is a brilliant start to the season,” he said. “It couldn’t have gone any better I think.
“We got a bit unlucky at Crawley, then at Gillingham – how we drew that I don’t know – that is football. Then a win today and hopefully we can (now) start getting a few under our belts.”
