JORDAN Turnbull, Nathan and Louis Thompson weren’t the only Wiltshire boys in Saturday’s starting XIs. Jon Guthrie from Milton Lilbourne was making his first ever proffesional appearance at the County Ground but for Swindon’s opponents, Crewe.
Guthrie was picked up in February 2012 by the Railwaymen having only previously played for Pewsey Vale in the Wessex League and actually made his debut against Town at Gresty Road.
As a youngster he used to watch Town and after the game he reflected on returning to the County Ground as a player.
“You always support your local team and they were the biggest local team to me, to be fair. It was really nice to play here, it was my first time,” he said.
“A lot’s changed in since my debut against Town. I only came on four three or four minutes so it was a bit different. It’s always nice to play against your local team. I had a lot family and friends here which was nice. A lot’s changed individually since then as well.
“It took a while for me to settle in and get used to, everything was so much different than at Pewsey, the pace, everything. I’m really enjoying it, I love being at the club and playing in the first team.”
