BRIGHTON boss Sami Hyypia is steeling his side for a motivated Swindon Town ahead of their League Cup second round clash tonight.
The former Liverpool and Finland captain, took over at the Amex during the summer after a spell in charge of Bayer Leverkusen, the club he left Anfield to play for.
After a tough start the Finn has guided the Seagulls to back-to-back wins over Leeds and Bolton, with goals from Joao Teixeira crucial in both.
Hyypia is looking to make it three on the bounce at the County Ground, with a side that could include new signing, Spanish striker Adrian Colunga.
“I think this game will give us an option to give minutes to some of the players who haven’t played a lot recently. With Colunga we still haven’t got the international clearance, so we will see how it develops for tomorrow,” he said.
“I think for them it is a very big game, playing a side which is in a higher league than themselves.
“Usually that motivates a side very much and they are definitely up for the game and for a fight.”
There are a number of current connections between the two sides. Former Swindon captain Gordon Greer now wears the armband for the Seagulls. George Barker, Raphael Branco, Yaser Kasim and Anton Rogers were all part of Brighton’s development squad, where they would have worked with Mark Cooper’s assistant Luke Williams.
Though most of that movement came before Hyypia’s time he appears to be well aware of what Town are about.
“From what I have seen of them they like to play football as well, so it is going to be an interesting game to be involved in.”
“I want to win every game. We need a good attitude, a good mentality, a good start. We need to make sure we are up for it from the start.”
