BOSS Mark Cooper took everything from the performance and nothing from the result as his Swindon side played with magnificent spirit but ended up losing 4-2 to Brighton and Hove Albion.
Swindon completely dominated their Championship visitors, fighting back from 1-0 to equalise just after half-time.
Then, in the extra-time, they took the game to Brighton having conceded two goals and gone down to 10 men after an injury to George Barker, as Yaser Kasim struck to give his side hope and almost force penalties.
Cooper said of team’s performance: “I think I take everything from it. The thing that stands out for me is nearly every Brighton player, their manager and their coaching staff came to find me at the end and just said what a fantastic football team you have.
“I’ve relayed that to the players and told them if you take anything from tonight take that with you, because if you believe in that performance and you believe how good you are then you can go as far as you want. Even with nine-and-half-men at the end we played brilliantly.
“Our players were incredible, to play the football we did against a Championship team and at times to be so dominant, is credit to the players. They will deserve every plaudit they get tonight.”
The game cost Town in terms of injuries for Saturday’s game with Coventry. Ben Gladwin, Michael Smith and George Barker could all be missing, while skipper Nathan Thompson will serve a one-match suspension after seeing red in the last minute of extra-time.
