SWINDON Town’s on-loan defender Jordan Turnbull is really enjoying being part of the team’s footablling ethos.
Turnbull joined the club initially on work experience from parent club Southampton, impressing in two pre-season run outs before sealing a season-long youth loan deal. He has started all of Swidnon’s league and cup fixtures and shown impressive ability with the ball at his feet as part of a back three.
Playing out of defence is a key element of Mark Cooper’s tactical plan and Turnbull has not shirked his responsibility in that department, showing the pedigree that saw Southampton snap him up as a youngster playing in Wiltshire.
For the time being Turnbull has re-settled in the area and spoke in glowing terms about Swindon Town.
“I think it’s great club, the lads and the staff have all been great to me,” he said.
“I’m settled in now, I think I’ve got great a relationship with the players and it shows on the pitch. We’re all working well together and hopefully we can have a great season.
“We play to keep the ball, we play to keep it moving, we’re great at it. We’re getting better every game, we’re very confident on the ball – every single player. We work on it in training and it shows in the matches how confident everyone is on the ball.
“I think the coaches have played a massive part in this. We work on it every single day in training. The lads have accepted it and got on with it and I think we’re doing very well with it. Hopefully we can keep it up.
“The cohesion here’s massive. We’re all good mates off the pitch, in training, we’re all good pals.”
Turnbull gave away a penalty as Swindon chased the game on Tuesday night but his teammates picked him up quickly and it didn’t seem to have knocked the 19-year-old’s confidence in himself or his fellow players to respond.
“Unfortunately their player’s got before me but the (Town’s) players got around me picked me and carried on and we put in a massive effort at the end.
“The lads will take great confidence out of that into Saturday definitely, we’ve competed well against a good solid Championship team. I think that will build our confidence even more and hopefully we can build on that throughout the season.”
