SWINDON Supermarine manager Dave Webb is looking for his start to retain their focus and embark on a FA Cup journey.
The Webb’s Wood Stadium side entertain Western League Premier Division outfit Hallen tomorrow, with the South Marston men eager to avoid another cup upset.
Having recovered from their Division One South and West 6-1 thrashing at Totton nearly a fortnight ago, Webb has been pleased with the response from his players.
“It could have gone either two ways after that match,” Webb said. “We could have crumbled or we could have shown our character - I’m pleased that it is the latter.
“The performance against Taunton last Saturday, although we didn’t get anything from it, was much better and I was really pleased with the 4-2 win at Wantage on Monday.
“It was good to see the lads expressing themselves and enjoying their football.
“What this period has shown me is that everyone of them want to play for this football club.”
Should Marine progress from their preliminary round tie tomorrow against the Armadillos, Webb’s men could face a return trip to the scene of their 6-1 horror showing.
“Ironically we could have Totton (who host Gillingham Town) in the next round,” Webb said. “But first we must focus on Hallen.
“They are a decent side and this is a big game for both clubs, but we should be able to beat them and progress.
“This is a great competition to be in, not only for the revenue - that always helps a club like us - but to have a bit of run, who knows we could progress through two or three rounds.”
Marine will be without skipper Dave Bampton as he begins a three-match ban after he was sent off for stamping during the Yate Town game in the opening week season.
