SWINDON Spitfires ladies kick off their league campaign on Sunday and hope that this season will see them mount a serious title challenge.
The team finished third in the South West Women’s League Premier Division last term, having only won promotion to the division that year.
They entertain Somerset-based Bridgwater Town at The Elms on Sunday, with the game kicking off at 2pm.
St Nicholas and Cheltenham Town, who finished top and second respectively, last season have both gone up a league, making Spitfires one of the favourites for glory this time around.
Jenny Jones has signed for Spitfires from St Nicholas over the summer, as has Jenny Gray from Welsh Premier League Champions Cardiff Met and Suze Berry from Cirencester Town.
The team’s top goalscorer in 2013/2014, Hayley Huckin, has stayed with the team as has player’s player of the year Laura Stallard.
The club are still appealing to any players interested in joining the team to take part in a training session.
