TOWN boss Mark Cooper is flattered by the links being made with Leeds United but insists he has not finished his ‘project’ at Swindon Town.
The odds on Cooper being appointed as the new chief at Elland Road shortened dramatically over the weekend as stories appeared in the national press linking the Town boss with Leeds. Before that point Cooper was off the radar but now he can be found at as short a price as 3/1 with some betting firms.
Leeds owner Massimo Cellino is known to want a British boss familiar with the English leagues and with Cooper’s family ties to the club through his dad, former England international and Leeds’ favourite Terry Cooper, he appears a natural fit.
However Cooper was shocked to hear that, according to the bookmakers, himself and former West Brom manager Steve Clarke are in a two horse race for the job, making it perfectly clear he is happy at Swindon.
“It’s always flattering to be associated with jobs and especially Leeds, with the family history,” said Cooper. “But I’ve got a big job on here, I’ve started a project, its going the right way and I’m thoroughly enjoying myself.”
Cellino is currently in Miami and it is thought the club would not appoint a new manager until the Italian has met him in person so there is unlikely to be any movement until he returns from America at the end of the week.
