SHEFFIELD United defender Kieron Freeman says Swindon Town acted like the job is already done ahead of the two sides’ League One play-off semi-final second leg.
Town wing-back Nathan Byrne fired a last-gasp winner at Bramall Lane on Thursday night to give Mark Cooper’s side a 2-1 advantage to bring back to the County Ground.
The visitors’ celebrations in South Yorkshire irked the United camp and Freeman thinks Town believe they already have one foot in the final.
Town just need to avoid defeat at home to book their place at Wembley on May 24 but that has made the Blades even hungrier to upset the odds.
Freeman reckons Swindon might get the jitters in front of their own fans and should that happen, United are more than capable of taking advantage.
Freeman told the Sheffield Star: “They were celebrating as if they were through. They were probably buzzing because they knew they didn’t deserve to win the game.
“But that’s even better for us. The gaffer said to us at the end ‘they think they’re through.’ We’ll see. There’s Monday to go now.
“Their fans, at home, will want them to perform. But with a 2-1 lead do they defend or do they attack? We’ll have to wait and see.
“They’ve got the one way they like to play. They pass the ball but we pressurised them into so many mistakes.
“That might play to our favour. It might make them more cautious and we can make them make even more mistakes.”
United were out of the blocks quickly at Bramall Lane, with Freeman firing them ahead after 20 minutes, although they perhaps should have been out of sight before Town mounted their brave second-half fightback.
Freeman says the Blades know they are more than capable of causing Swindon a host of problems, so there is no need to change their plan of attack.
“I think we’ll go into the game exactly as we did that one. We came out and they didn’t expect us to hit them as hard as we did,” said Freeman.
“They’ve annihilated teams at times this season. They were nowhere near that against us. You could tell in the game, they were expecting it to be easier than it was.”
