Pay-Off semi final second leg Swindon v Sheffield United (2-1 aggregate)
What a result on Thursday night. No not the election. The Town winning at Bramall Lane for the first time since Feb 1970. Not only that, but it is twice on the trot that we have won sporting that purple kit. Can we have it next season?
I was unable to neither watch any part of the first leg nor even listen to the radio commentary, as I was deeply entrenched in compiling the stats for the Exit Poll for the General Election.
Fortunately there was a social club nearby to where I was operating and the only indication I had as to how the game was going was by the cheers from the big screen or the groans from the patrons in the club.
It was easy to tell that we had fallen behind, and that we had subsequently won and missed a penalty; confirmed by a sneak peak through the window. Then there was the roar as Ricketts equalised. Great. I’d take a 1-1 draw into the 2nd leg.
But wait, it wasn’t over yet. Knowing that the final whistle wasn’t long in coming, I knew that we had the winner because the noise from the club erupted with cries of “YES” and “Get in there”.
Sheffield have had a torrid time in the play-offs, having never won promotion through them. Let’s keep it that way. Let’s have a resounding performance tonight and more importantly a resounding win.
COME ON YOU REDS.
