CROFT Junior took advantage of Fox & Hounds Freshbrook not playing at the weekend to move top of Division Four on goal difference.
Goals from Sam Matthews, Aaron Dale and Stefan Edwards, who was stepping up from under 18 level for his first game, secured a 3-1 win over struggling Gorsehill Borough.
Croft are now level on 25 points with Freshbrook and Willowgreen Hotspur, who beat Purton Westbrook 3-0, but have two games in hand, something that manager Gary Sellars is hoping will play in their favour.
“We have done the double over Gorsehill this season now, which is nice,” he said.
“The oldest player in our team is 20 and we are playing against seasoned players but we dominated possession and chances to win the game.
“It is going to be a tight finish and we have all got to play each other so it is in our own hands I suppose.
“The trouble is now we are struggling because we have to play Thursday night games, which isn’t in the spirit of the Sunday League I don’t think.
“We’re going to be struggling for players and we’ll just see where we are come the end of the season.”
Meanwhile, Greyhound moved a step closer to wrapping the Division One title at the weekend as their 1-0 win over KC Globe put them six points clear with fourth-placed FC Walcot the only team able to beat their points tally.
In Division Two West Swindon Wanderers maintained their four point lead at the top with a 3-1 success over Cleeve Tech, while Shrivenham Sunday continue to keep the leaders honest with a comfortable 8-0 win over AFC Moonrakers.
DPR remain seven points clear at the top of Division Three following their 3-2 win over Woodlands Edge, while Uruguay Sociedad, who have three games in hand over the league leaders secured a 5-0 win over Rudis.
In Division Five Swindon Athletic capitalised on the top two not playing as they closed the gap with a 2-0 victory at Abbeymeads development, while Athletico Marlborough were 2-1 winners over Purton Red House.
