JAZZ Carlin’s mum Mary was left amazed by the moment her daughter claimed an Olympic silver medal in the 400m freestyle at the Rio Games.
Carlin’s success, which saw her clock a lifetime’s best of four minutes 01.23 seconds, was achieved in front of proud parents Mary and Roger, who were watching poolside in Rio.
“We went to the heats earlier on in the day and she did such an amazing swim in the heats and looked very comfortable and even that was a PB,” mum Mary told the Adver.
“We just thought that anything could happen in the final, obviously we were hoping that she could make the final.
“We knew that (Katie) Ledecky would be the winner because she is such a fine specimen but we also knew that Jazz would be in the mix with the rest.
“She just controlled it all the way through and it was absolutely amazing.
“I was absolutely elated when she touched the wall and we saw that she was a silver medallist.
“She has been in good spirits, ever since she left for the holding camps, so I knew that she was feeling happy and relaxed and just needed to put that into the swim and enjoy it.”
