RAYCHEM C claimed their first win of the season in Division Two of the Swindon and District Winter League as they beat fellow strugglers Pinehurst C 56-43.
In a fine team performance, Freya Jamieson was named player of the match for the winners, a victory which now leaves them just three points behind second from bottom Jets A, who went down 53-43 to Nationwide B at the weekend.
In an even contest, Jets took a slender 22-19 lead into the half-time interval but in the process lost their goal keeper due to injury.
Nationwide increased the pressure after the interval, with turnovers and some excellent centre court play allowing goal attack Charlotte Webb and goal shooter Sian Corbyn to give their side a 37-31 lead at the end of the third session.
In the final quarter, Nationwide sealed the 10-point success as their goal defence Jeanette O’Regan claimed the player of the match award.
In Division One, Raychem A maintained their charge for the top with a 70-44 success over Pinehurst A, with Sophie Collins taking the player award and goal shooter Claire Baverstock using her height and strength advantage well.
The B team, who sit second from bottom in the division, edged out basement side Delta Reds A 41-40, with Bethan Harris impressing in a game Raychem trailed until the final three minutes.
Raychem F, however, lost 44-29 to Delta C in Division Four, despite two players impressing after stepping up from the G side.
Ayren Walker stood out for the regional league side in their 55-47 loss to Almondsbury.
n Lawn’s junior section had a busy weekend with five teams in action.
The U16s travelled to Taunton for their regional league match and dominated their Somerset hosts with fluent centre court play and precise shooting to win 51-38.
The U14s edged a thrilling battle in their game against Taunton. The two sides were tied 14-14 at the interval before Lawn took a four-goal lead into the final quarter.
Taunton managed to draw level in the last session of the match, however, Lawn took a 31-30 victory, with goal shooter Hannah Simpson named player of the match.
In the Swindon Junior League, Lawn U11B beat Croft 16-2, while a spirit performance from the U11A team was not enough to see them lose their game and the U12s won their match 22-10.
