SWINDON Town goalkeeper Lawrence Vigouroux played down his heroics between the sticks which aided his side to claim an important point against MK Dons.
The visitors to the County Ground had the better of the chances in the first half as both Kieran Agard and Ben Reeves were played through one-on-one with the Town stopper.
However, it was only a penalty that beat the 23-year-old’s rear-guard defences – a spot-kick that Vigouroux guessed the right way for but was ultimately beaten by the shot’s precision.
Town were able to battle back in the second half to claim a point and despite seeing his woodwork rattled three times during the contest, Vigouroux says his team-mates can feel hard done by not to come away with all three points.
“I think the first half was a little bit cagey,” he said.
“We came in at half-time, nobody’s head was down, we were still together.
“In the second half, we came out and we had more width and I think it told.
“Towards the end, they were just trying to clear the ball and we dominated.
“Late goals is always better than an early goal because you haven’t got that much time to hold onto it.
“I think a point is a fair result but I think, in the end, we feel a bit aggrieved that we haven’t come away with all three.”
Despite Jonathan Obika’s leveller coming in the 91st minute, with five minutes added on by referee Graham Salisbury, Ed Upson was presented a golden chance to snatch the win but blazed his one-on-one opportunity with Vigouroux high and wide to the goalkeeper’s relief.
“In the last minute, he has come through one-on-one and I have come out while he is looking down to try and shut the angle down and by the time he has looked up to see what he is going to hit, I think I have put him off a little bit and he has put it wide,” he added.
“The Agard one, I just tried to stand up as long as I could and the Upson one, I have just tried to shut him down and give him as little of the goal to hit as I could.
“They were good chances for them but I think I should be expected to save them, I would be disappointed if I conceded either of those.
“In the context of the game, the least we deserved today was a point and we have just got to go again next Friday, it’s a huge one.”
