IT MAY have taken 13 hours of waiting on transfer deadline day and it may not have been the home debut he was dreaming of, but Keshi Anderson is delighted to be plying his trade with Swindon Town this season.
The Crystal Palace man joined on loan at the eleventh hour last Thursday, following a day of waiting around the Beversbrook training ground for the deal to go through.
However, having had loan spells in League One with Doncaster Rovers, Bolton Wanderers and, most recently, Northampton Town, the 22-year-old striker said he wouldn’t have dropped down to League Two for anyone other than Swindon.
“I was literally at the training ground for about 13 hours, just waiting around and unsure where I was going or if I was going or staying,” he said.
“I knew Swindon were interested, they have been for the last two seasons and it’s always nice when you know a club and a philosophy of a club and they want you to be a part of that.
“There were a few other clubs interested in me but, for me to come to League Two, it was only ever going to be Swindon that I would come to, the way they play football, I felt like it would suit me.”
Anderson featured for Frank De Boer’s Palace side in the Asia Cup but on his return to England, twisted his ankle during training, causing a small tear, which ruled him out of the rest of pre-season and sparked the need for another loan move.
“By the time I got back into the swing of it, there were 10 days left of the window and I hadn’t played as much as I would have wanted to,” he explained.
“I played two U23 games, so it gave me the fitness that I needed, but it was good being in and around it (at Crystal Palace) and hopefully when I go back, I’ll be involved again.”
The forward was thrown straight into the action for Town against Barnet, less than 48 hours after his move to the County Ground.
While it didn’t go to plan for Anderson, he is confident that the team can put that result behind them and with a full week of training under his belt, and that of the other three arrivals on deadline day, the synergy between the players will only get better.
“It wasn’t the best of starts to my time here,” he added. “The way we conceded the two goals early on didn’t help.
“We’ve got a very important game on Saturday against a good opposition and we’d like to turn things back into our favour.
“The tempo and the speed of the game is a lot different from U23s to League Two, so after two or three games, I’ll be right where I need to be.
“One thing with Friday, where the five of us have come in and everything is new, it is hard to just gel instantly.
“I feel like we’ve had a very good week’s training, with on the ball stuff and fitness work, to make sure we are up to scratch.”
