SWINDON Supermarine manager Dave Webb says his team are breathtaking to watch at times, following the 3-0 dispatching of Mangotsfield United in Evo-Stik League South West on Saturday.
Two goals in six first-half minutes set the tone for the afternoon as Aaron Woodley opened the visitors’ account with less than four minutes on the clock.
That was quickly followed up two minutes later as Lee Marshall found the back of the net with the help of the inside of the post, to leave the hosts, under the new leadership of Wayne Thorne, shell-shocked.
The game was all but over three minutes before the break when Connor Thompson turned his marker before nestling the ball into the bottom corner.
“I’m really pleased,” said Webb.
“They only appointed a new manager on Friday in Wayne Thorne, so you’re never quite sure what you are going to go into.
“The players want to impress the new man and we knew we might get a bit of a reaction.
“We started the game so well, scoring two fantastic goals in the first 10 minutes and that really settled us down.
“We played some good football at times and got the crucial third goal from Connor Thompson before the break and that was job done really.
“Second half, we kept the ball well and still created chances to increase the lead but didn’t manage to take one.
“It was a fantastic result. It’s a clean sheet and three good goals.”
Marine, who were without winger Ryan Campbell and Jon Else, climbed to third place in the league with the victory and remain unbeaten in all competitions.
And while Webb is remaining grounded, he says it is a pleasure to see the hard work put in away from the pitch paying dividends on it.
“There was no Ryan Campbell today, he was ill, Jon Else wasn’t there, he was away on holiday, so we had to change things around but the players who came in did exceptionally well,” he added.
“It’s the strength of the group and the way they are playing and what they are starting to put together is a nice little run.
“Seven games and we have got the FA Cup now to look forward to.
“We can’t get carried away, we’ve achieved nothing yet but the signs are very positive and the way they are playing and some of the football at times is breathtaking stuff.”
