SWINDON Town manager David Flitcroft says there is no magic formula to their away form other than hard work as they hit the road again this evening.
Town travel to Notts County tonight with a perfect away record in the league, having secured victories at Carlisle United, Morecambe and most recently Luton Town.
However, Flitcroft is not putting it down to any lucky pants or pre-match ritual, instead stating that he has found a system that works away from home, which is drilled into the players in the build-up to the game, something he is working hard on finding for home games as well.
“Work on the training ground,” he replied when asked to explain their formidable form on the road.
“Teams may be coming onto you a little bit more and trying to attack you and when you play from a solid shape, you can go and counter them.
“From a mindset point of view, it’s Swindon Town rocking up to these places and the mindset has been, we are Swindon, we are proud and we’ll go and really perform.
“I, as a manager, have got to find the right form and the right way to play at home. We have got that wrong up until now.
“Away from home, it’s a solid structure, discipline and a willingness to work harder than the other team.”
With just two full days to prepare for tonight’s game at Meadow Lane, Flitcroft concedes that he will have to look at using the full depth of his squad in order to prevent players from burning out.
“It’s a body count as well,” he said.
“That’s one hell of a shift the boys have put in to claim that result so we have got to get back and see who can go again and who can perform.
“The wide players and the front players, the distance covered will be extreme (from Saturday).
“They have worked so hard out of shape and out of possession and we will look at that with a view to getting ready to go again.”
One of those players that Town will have to assess is Luke Norris, who was removed in the second half of Saturday’s win at Kenilworth Road with an ankle knock.
However, Flitcroft was able to give a positive update on the recuperation of full-back Kyle Knoyle and midfielder John Goddard from their respective ailments.
“We think Kyle is going to train with us on Monday, which is fantastic,” he explained.
“He will do training with the first team and then he’ll do his own work as well to catch up.
“Johnny Goddard, we did a really good session with him (Saturday morning), so hopefully he will be on the grass by Wednesday.”
