WILTSHIRE men took the accolades in the annual outdoor showdown against Wiltshire Ladies beating them in their final friendly match of the season at Amesbury.
The men won 127-108 winning on three rinks, drawing on another and only lost on two.
Top men’s rink was skipped by Salisbury’s Bob Fredericks who won by 13 shots. They were followed by Supermarine’ s Richard Gardiner who won by ten shots and Royal Wootton Bassett’s Alan Small (five shots).
Meanwhile sharing the spoils were the foursomes skipped by Amesbury’s Bill Collier and Delia Godwin (Spencer Melksham).
Successful for the ladies were rinks skipped by Amesbury’s Janice Rowe (seven shots) and Salisbury’s Margaret Annett’s (two shots).
Wiltshire men’s president John Southern (Amesbury) came out on top in the presidential battle against his counterpart Mo Woolley (Alderbury) with his rink winning their game 26-16.

Rink 2: Graham Annetts, Stewart Allison, Steve Mitchell & Alan Small beat Rose Keen, Sue Gravell, Karen Kirby & Joan Coleman 22-17. Rink 3: Dave Edmonds, Richard Francis, John Southern & Richard Gardiner beat June Corbett, Fizz Mace, Mo Woolley & Babs Salter 26-16. Rink 4: Jim Richards, Geoff Toomer, Peter Sanders & Bob Fredericks beat Glenda Hibberd, Mary Jones, Sheila Garlick & Pat Jones 29-16.Rink 5: Gordon Black, Frank Botting, Mel Williams & Martin Salter lost to Val Botting, Pat Reaves, Bev Lilley & Janice Rowe 14-21. Rink 6: Peter Naish, Dave Williams, Brian Merritt & Bill Collier drew with Ann Hindley, Joyce Little, Jean Collier & Delia Godwin 20-20.
Score: Wiltshire Ladies lost to Wiltshire Men 108-127.
A few days earlier, Wiltshire men had rounded off their friendlies with a 19-shot success over Essex at Maidenhead.
Under the leadership of Southern, the county won on three of the six rinks and drew on another but lost on two in their 128-109 victory.
Top rink honours again went to Bob Fredericks (14 shots) followed by Avon’s John Crowder (eight shots) and Trowbridge Westbourne’s Dave Richards (four) while last year’s president Spencer Melksham’s Peter Sanders drew 19-19.
The only skips to taste defeat were Alan Small (RWB) by six shots and narrowly Bill Collier (Amesbury) by a single shot.
Wiltshire’s John Southern won the presidents battle against Mark Cohen (Southend-on-sea BC) by the small margin of four shots in an 18-14 success.
