RAYCHEM Netball Club’s founder Mo Squires has been nominated for a Torch Trophy Trust award at an award ceremony in London next month.
Squires, the current Raychem chair, collected three prizes at netball’s Goalden Globe Awards in Birmingham in October, which celebrate the contribution that volunteers make to the delivery of netball across the country.
The Torch Trophy Trust is a charity that rewards, recognises and supports volunteers in sport and recreation.
Squires has been nominated by England Netball president Lindsay Satori to receive an award for ‘her outstanding voluntary work for England Netball’ and specifically for her involvement in the development of Walking Netball.
As one of the first Walking Netball hosts, Squires led the launch of the game in Swindon and Wiltshire, and now oversees six sessions running each week in Swindon.
n LAWN B cruised to a confidence boosting 54-25 win against Raychem C in Division Two of the Swindon & District Winter League.
There was no such joy for Lawn C though as they slipped to a 24-40 loss against Fairford A while Royal Wootton Bassett A defeated Delta A 33-38.
Hannah Simpson starred for Lawn D as they beat Royal Wootton Bassett C 42-30, while Lawn’s fifth team also won, beating Burmah C 36-30.
Bassett’s B team proved too strong defensively against Purton in Division Four, winning 46-27 and the club’s U11s team defeated Lawn 14-0 in the Junior League.
