JAZZ Carlin qualified fourth fastest for tomorrow’s 800m freestyle final after the Wiltshire swimmer began her Commonwealth Games campaign this weekend.
Wales’ Carlin, who won gold in this event at the Glasgow Games four years ago, finished second in heat two of this morning’s heats, clocking 8mins 36.52secs behind Ariarne Titmus of host nation Australia in 8:32.78.
Fellow Aussie Jessica Ashwood was the fastest qualifier after winning heat one in 8:29.30, with Scotland’s Camilla Hattersley also clocking a faster time than Carlin in 8:35.62.
The final takes place at 10.43am BST on Monday morning.
Carlin, who won two silver medals at the Rio Olympics in 2016, opened up her competition on the Gold Coast on Saturday when she helped Wales finish fifth in the final of the 4x200m freestyle relay.
Australia won gold ahead of Canada and England.
