WILTSHIRE swimmer Jazz Carlin failed to add a further medal to her extensive Commonwealth Games collection after she could only finish sixth in the 800m freestyle final today.
Swindon's Carlin, who lives in Bradford on Avon, won gold in the same event at the Glasgow Games four years ago - as well as two silver medals at the Rio Olympics in 2016 - but has turned her attentions to training for open water swimming in recent months.
The 27-year-old Welshwoman has switched back to the pool in an effort to add to the four Commonwealth medals she was already won in her career on the Gold Coast, but did not feature prominently in today's final.
Ariarne Titmus led home a clean sweep of the medals for host nation Australia with victory in 8mins 20.02 ahead of Jessica Ashwood and Kiah Melverton as Carlin's 8:37.45 was only good enough for sixth.
Carlin's time was slower than the 8:36.52 she posted when qualifying fourth fastest for the final, for which Ashwood had led the times in the heats in 8:29.30.
Carlin started her Commonwealth campaign on Saturday when she helped Wales to fifth place in the final of the 4x200m freestyle relay and now turns her attentions to the heats of the 400m freestyle in the early hours of tomorrow morning, going in the second of three at 1.37am BST.
The final then takes place at 12.37pm.
