SWINDON Storm head coach Rich Van Sloten says he must take responsibility as his side were beaten 22-8 by the Bournemouth Bobcats.
Storm have failed to win any of their three league games so far, in which they have only mustered two touchdowns.
Last time out, rookie Jack Chandler was the only scorer for the Swindon team, while this week that responsibility fell to Dan Thorne.
The game got off to a positive start for Storm, who took the lead through Thorne and held their 8-0 advantage through to half time.
However, it was after the break Van Sloten’s men struggled as the Bobcats ramped it up a gear to score 22 unanswered points to seal a comfortable victory.
Reflecting on the game, Van Sloten says his side made costly errors on Sunday afternoon and admitted that, ultimately, he is the man who will have to reverse their fortunes.
“We started well at the beginning of the game,” said the Storm chief.
“There was some good ground work done by the offence, but it was a case of penalties undoing all of the hard work they put in.
“At the other end, the defence were aggressive again but as it seemed to be for the day, mistakes cost us in the second half.
“We seemed to drop our heads in the second half and even though we were able to move the ball, we were unable to punch it in.
“Ultimately the blame lies with me. I’m the head coach and it my responsibility to get a winning season.”
