SWINDON Storm coach Sean Harper says there were positives to take from their 34-0 defeat to Hertfordshire Cheetahs.
Their opponents had been in formidable form leading up to the fixture, with a run six straight victories, including an eye-catching a 110-0 victory over Hastings Conquerors.
However, despite a dismal run of form this season, the offensive coach says there were good aspects to their game which was played in scorching temperatures.
"Tough game in very hot conditions away at Hertfordshire who won last week 110-0 which is unheard of in the current climate of the league, new rules were placed to help prevent scores being racked up on teams," he said.
"The final score was 34-0 but our defensive performance was another great showing with the Hertfordshire's coaching team making a point of saying it's the best defence they've faced all season.
"Despite missing players and people out of position they forced Herts to continually change their approach.
"Unfortunately, the offence left it late to start moving the ball however we got lots of players time in different positions, rookies onto the field and test out some new things so there were positives.
"The coaching staff felt that the despite the result the effort was exemplary from start to finish."
Sunday's away game to Hastings will see Storm wrap up their league campaign, and Harper is adamant Rich Van Sloten's side will want to finish on a high.
If they are to do so, Harper has warned his teammates that they must show a ruthless streak offensively to have any chance of winning the game.
"On Sunday we are away to Hastings, really positive feeling that we will finish the season with three wins if we finally get the turn in fortunes underway against them," he added.
"We are desperate and determined to finish on a high, the signs are there that we aren't far away from finally clicking into place on offence.
"We just need to get better at situational awareness and stop making simple mistakes at key moments. If we do that we will score plenty of points and win games to finish the season on a high."
