MOREDON made a winning return as the Swindon & District Netball League resumed action at the weekend, claiming a 54-45 success over Lawn in Division One.
Croft A got the better of a thrilling contest against Raychem A, winning 46-45 to end their opponents’ winning streak.
Lawn B fared better their than A team counterparts in Division Two as they beat Pinehurst B 38-31.
Fairford A mounted a second-half fightback to beat Raychem C 52-40.
Fairford were down by one goal after the first quarter, but they managed to pull themselves back into the contest and had taken a strong lead by the end of the third quarter.
Shooting was strong from both teams and although Raychem put up a good fight, they could not reel Fairford back in.
It was honours even in the contest involving Lawn C in Division Three as they shared a 25-25 draw against Nationwide C.
Determination and good defensive work by Em Osbourne and Tracy Goodwin allowed Lawn to take the lead into half-time, however, tactical changes by Nationwide after the break saw them fight back to draw level before the final whistle.
Royal Wootton Bassett A were convincing 48-23 winners over Fairford B.
Bassett took an early lead and a combination of hard work in the defensive end alongside accurate shooting saw them home with ease.
However, Bassett’s B team did not fare so well in their contest against Moonraker in Division Four, going down 36-25.
Both teams were evenly matched in the first quarter, but Moonraker took the lead in the second as Bassett struggled to convert their turnovers into goals.
Delta Reds B claimed a dominant 36-24 success over Coleview.
A nervy first quarter saw Delta edge narrowly ahead by two goals, but they grew in confidence in the second, with Donna Royal supporting attacking moves and shooting accurately.
Despite a fight back from Coleview in the second half, Delta’s defence held firm to seal their first win of the season.
In Division Five, Lawn D picked up their first win of the season with a 40-25 success over Purton B.
Lawn were strengthened by three new players, who all took to the court for their first senior game and slotted in with ease.
The defensive combinations played extremely well, with newcomer Thea Rhodes particularly to the fore with several interceptions.
Royal Wootton Bassett C came away with a 32-28 victory over Croft D.
Bassett had a one-goal lead after the first quarter and managed to maintain their advantage throughout the game despite a strong surge from Croft in the final quarter.
Nationwide D mounted a late charge to hold Calne as the two sides played out an entertaining 32-32 draw.
Calne held the lead for three quarters of the game, but Nationwide went all out in the final quarter to claw their way back into the contest.
The team performance was elevated and, led by experienced newcomer Sue Kissane alongside support from Alice Griesel, Nationwide drew level to end their losing streak.
