IT’S been a tricky week for me as I’ve been resting up with a dose on tonsillitis, which is why I was missing for our game on Sunday against Bracknell Bees.
That game didn’t go to plan for the team, but we recorded three big points over the weekend and that’s the most important thing if we’re to reach our goal of winning the title.
It’s tough to lose against teams that are up there with us – Bracknell, Peterborough Phantoms and Basingstoke Bison.
We’ve got to make sure we pick up points where we can, and games against those top teams are definitely ones that will win us the league when it comes down to the end of the season.
As the season goes on, making sure we build on our performances is key.
We like playing in our building, there are always good games at the Link Centre – and our team spirit shines through.
We’re excited for Saturday's game against Peterborough, especially to be in our own rink, and two big wins is definitely our plan.
A few of the rinks in the league are quite similar in size, but it’s our building and we’re used to it.
Like any team, they will be used to training every week on their home surface.
You can get used to the ice, the rink and other small things.
For example, the way puck bounces off the board – it might be that at one rink the puck bounces soft but at another it will be hard.
Any niggles with the ice you get used to as well.
We’ve made the Link a tough place for teams to come and play, and we want to keep that going for as long as possible.
A smaller rink can make games more physical, and that’s something we like to use to our advantage.
We always want to overwhelm teams and swarm them.
Being relentless on our ice can help due to the rink’s small and narrow nature.
On big ice, that can be quite difficult.
We’re sitting in a good place in the league this year, usually we’re famous for starting slow.
Because of that, it’s good to be the opposite this year and have a bit of tail wind behind us straight away.
The Autumn Cup semi-final loss is obviously something we didn’t want.
But we’ve got to leave that behind us now and move on.
