SWINDON Wildcats have secured a deal to keep netminder Renny Marr at the club for the 2019-20 season.
Marr is currently in his second season with the Wildcats, having first joined the club from Elite League side Coventry Blaze back in the summer of 2017 and swiftly established himself as their first-choice keeper.
The 21-year-old helped the Cats to a double trophy success last season with victory in the NIHL Cup and Autumn Trophy finals and is continuing to lead the charge towards further honours this term, with Aaron Nell’s side currently sitting second in the NIHL South One table.
Earlier in the season, Scotsman Marr set one of the longest shut-out streaks the Wildcats have ever seen with clean sheets in three consecutive games against Invicta Dynamos and Raiders.
Cats player-coach Nell is thrilled at the prospect of keeping of one of the country’s most exciting netminding talents at the Link Centre for the foreseeable future.
“I’m over the moon Renny has decided to renew his deal with us already for the 2019-20 season,” said Nell.
“He’s is a vital part of the club and continues to improve night on night. He’s only young and he’ll only continue to get better.
“Renny gives us a chance to win every night and he’s one of the best netminders in the NIHL right now.
“He’s happy in Swindon and we are delighted he’s going to be staying around a bit longer.
“We always have one eye on recruitment and planning for the next season – it shows great commitment from Renny to re-sign at this time of the year and we’re pleased to be able to offer him that deal.”
After a winless weekend in NIHL South One following defeats at home to Raiders and away at Peterborough Phantoms, Swindon return to action on Saturday when they host Invicta at the Link Centre.
