STEVEN Alzate says he would like to extend his loan stint at Swindon Town for the remainder of the season after a strong first impression at the club.
Midfielder Alzate agreed a season-long switch to the Energy Check County Ground from Premier League side Brighton & Hove Albion over the summer, although that will be reviewed by his parent club in January.
Alzate has started 15 of Town’s 21 League Two fixtures this season, and has scored three goals alongside four assists in all competitions.
In that time, both former manager Phil Brown and current Town boss Richie Wellens have utilised the versatile forward in multiple positions in their respective teams.
Alzate joined Brighton in 2017 and says from the moment he arrived on the south coast, they were keen for him to develop both as a player and a person.
Therefore, sending him to experience first-team football at Swindon was the perfect next step in his career.
With his review period just around the corner, the 20-year-old is hoping his parent club will see fit that he stays in Wiltshire for the rest of the campaign.
He said: “I’ve got a review period in January. I’m not too sure yet, but I could be staying until the end of the season.
“I’ve played quite a lot this season. That’s one of the main reasons I’d like to stay. The manager has faith in me and I’ve got trust from the players, so I’d like to stay.
“First-team football is so different to U23 football. I feel like I’ve developed as a player on and off the pitch in my time here.
“Brighton text me after every game to see how I’ve got on. They’re keeping tabs on me, making sure I’m doing well and they’re making sure my lifestyle is right because that’s very important.
“Right now, I’m concentrating on Swindon, but when I get the chance, I check to see how Brighton are doing as well because they’re my parent club.”
Alzate is hoping to feature for Town again this afternoon when they face Grimsby Town on the road.
