LAWN A failed to start the new year with a bang at the weekend as they lost to Pinehurst A 51-38 in Division One of the Swindon District Winter League.
Despite a battling performance, Lawn were unable to prevent Pinehurst’s attacks – eventually losing by 13 points and remaining eighth in the table as a result, eight points clear of bottom club Abbey A.
At the top of the table, Raychem A’s near faultless season continued as they defeated Burmah A 45-37 while chasing Croft A recorded a timely away win at Raychem B – coming out on top by 37 points to 55.
In Division Two, Lawn B kept the pressure on division leaders Nationwide B after seeing off the challenge of Purton A – winning 45-28.
After winning the first centre pass, Lawn established a strong lead entering the game’s second half and weathered Purton’s storm to eventually record a reasonably comfortable win.
Nationwide B remain top after they defeated Raychem D 28-58 – a result which earned Nationwide their 50th league point of the season.
Little changed in Division Three either as RTM maintained their spot at the top of the table following a 45-33 win over Nationwide C.
Royal Wootton Bassett A meanwhile recorded their eighth win of the winter by beating Moredon B – a result which maintained the nine-point gap between themselves and Delta A.
There was a shock in Division Four though as table topping Faringdon lost to Moonraker.
