SOUTH Africa calls for one talented Swindon nets player, who has again been honoured with an international call-up.
Abby Miles, 20, will represent the England Netball U21 team at this month’s World Indoor Netball Championships – which starts on Saturday and runs for a week.
The west Swindon resident has made a name for herself playing nets – a different take on the traditional game of netball.
But Great Britain’s choice to take three teams to South Africa – senior, under 21 and mixed – has played favourably into Miles’ hands, as she tackles the world stage once again.
Miles said: “I started playing in primary school, from quite a young age.
"I like the fast pace of the game really, it’s really challenging. I play defence and centre.
“I was over the moon when I heard I had been picked to go with the squad to South Africa. It’s just so exciting. I’ve wanted to do something like this for ages, it’s been a lifelong dream really.
“Me and the other girls have got a really good bond.
“We’ve done lots of training together where were have stayed away overnight, and we all get on really well. I like training with them.”
The youngster’s trip has been part-funded by digital marketing agency Smarter Media, who have pledged £500 of the £3,000 needed to fund her tour.
Miles added: “I’m very thankful to be receiving financial support from local businesses to help with this tour. Without their support it would be a struggle to find the money myself.
“I’m delighted and honoured to have been selected as one of 13 girls to represent England U21 in the Indoor Netball World Cup in my chosen sport, it’s an achievement. It’s been a lot of hard work but I am thankful to all those who’ve supported me along the way.”
