WILTSHIRE golfer Jordan Smith remains in contention after two rounds at the Alfred Dunhill Links Championship following a second strong day in Scotland.
Bowood player Smith shot a four-under 68 at Carnoustie to following his opening 64 at St Andrews to reached 12-under overall at the halfway stage.
That has Smith in a tie for fifth on the leaderboard before he heads to Kingsbarns for his third round on Saturday – after which the cut will take place.
Fellow Wiltshire golfer David Howell will need a strong third round at Carnoustie tomorrow in order to qualify for Sunday’s final round.
Swindon’s Howell shot a two-under 70 at St Andrews to follow his one-under 71 at Kingsbarns in the first round to reach three-under overall.
Despite two under-par rounds, the 44-year-old is still outside the top 100 on the leaderboard.
Fellow Englishman Matthew Jordan is the halfway leader on 14-under.
