ADVER Sport assess the performances of the Swindon Town players following their 3-1 victory over Rochdale in League One.
Matej Kovar: 7
Following an extremely quiet first half, Kovar was forced into making a couple of saves in the second while his main job turned into being Town’s sweeper – a job he performed admirably.
Paul Caddis: 7
Defending was water-tight for the most part, only a missed clearance on the line saw Rochdale score. Got forward really well throughout though and was a vital part of attacking moves.
Akin Odimayo: 7
Another encouraging performance for the league debutante that featured dominance in the air and pacey covering runs. He could be more considered on the ball though.
Zeki Fryers: 7
Though the defence was rarely tested, Fryers hardly put a foot wrong all game and looked assured alongside the youngster.
Rob Hunt: 7
A much sharper game from Hunt, he pressed the Rochdale left-back into anonymity and not much danger came from the visitors down his side.
Matt Smith: 8
Smith just about shaded the man of the match award ahead of the other two goalscorers due to a dominant display. Passing was excellent, interceptions were aplenty and topped it off with a goal.
Anthony Grant: 8
Grant picked up where he left off last season, so it seems, and an extremely rare goal for the former Chelsea man capped off a top afternoon.
Diallang Jaiyesimi: 7
Sparkling at times, Jaiyesimi secured an assist for Grant’s goal. However, he dipped in and out of the game with a fluctuating work rate.
Jack Paiyne: 8
Paiyne looks to be a really good acquisition from Wellens – his experience at this level will be vital and his performance on opening day showed plenty of promise. Involved in most good things, Paiyne nabbed an assist and could have scored once himself.
Jonny Smith: 6
Not Jonny Smith’s day in terms of end product, but Wellens was impressed with his work rate throughout and did a good job for the team in that sense.
Tyler Smith: 8
Another goal for Tyler Smith, setting Town up for a near-perfect afternoon. Smith was a menace throughout and his energy levels were admirable.
