TOMMY Wright has been named caretaker manager of Swindon Town until the end of the season after the club confirmed John Sheridan has resigned this morning.
Wright will be assisted by the club's head of coaching, Lee Peacock during this time as Town aim for a minor miracle in achieving League One safety.
Sheridan announced he planned to step down after Saturday evening's heavy 4-1 defeat by AFC Wimbledon that left the club bottom of the table with four games left to play.
Swindon's fifth loss in a row meant Sheridan had won just eight of his 31 games in charge since being appointed in November 2020.
In March, following defeat to Gillingham, the 56-year-old said he would be considering his position as manager before announcing he would stay on as he wanted to see the job through and keep Town up.
But evidently feeling he was unable to do that, Sheridan told the club's director of football, Paul Jewell and chairman, Lee Power on Saturday evening that he would like to go.
Swindon Town says it will be making no further comment at this time.
